Outdoor Education - Dust Monkeys
Monkland State School offers an exciting outdoor education program as part of their Positive Education program. Monkland boasts over 2km of purpose built trails and qualified and passionate staff. Our programs encourage positive risk taking and healthy lifestyle habits.
Our trails are open to use by clubs and organisations by arrangement and our school, through it's affiliation with MTBA hosts regular events - Dust Monkey Festivals. These events incorporate family friendly and competitive cyclocross, MTB and cross-country running events.
Check-in regularly to find out when the next event is taking place and contact Ben or Paul at admin@monklandss.eq.edu.au to discuss sponsoring an event.
The Living Classroom
'The Living Classroom' program engages and builds the capacity of students to plan, design, establish and manage living classroom garden, spaces and systems. These students become Garden Ambassadors who develop the culture of the program and support & engage new students and teachers into the program.
Changing the way people are think and feel about food and establishing a connection to the food they eat is the beginning to tackling obesity, and many social and behavioural problems in schools – The Living Classroom does this!
Into the future we will continue to shape the healthy habits of our school community. At Monkland, we value skills and knowledge that will shape a holistic development. We have a focus on cementing the basics of literacy and numeracy and an understanding of the world – but we also shape the positive risk taking, health habits and connection to the environment for greater development of ‘Happiness and Individual Success’.
